Ablakwa supports 2,269 SHS freshers in North Tongu with essential items

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has donated essential items to newly enrolled Senior High School (SHS) students in his constituency as part of efforts to support their transition into secondary education.
This year, all 2,269 students who successfully completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and gained admission to SHS received chop boxes, mattresses and exercise books.
The initiative also included the provision of hygiene products for female students. Tissues and sanitary pads were distributed to all the female beneficiaries to help address their basic hygiene needs as they begin their secondary education.
In addition, the MP donated bicycles to all 100 newly enrolled day students, providing them with an additional means of transportation to and from school.
Mr. Ablakwa expressed delight at continuing what has become an annual tradition in the constituency, saying the initiative continues to improve each year and is designed to ensure that no student is left behind because of financial difficulties.
He emphasised the importance of removing barriers that could prevent young people from pursuing their education after completing the BECE.
The support is particularly significant for families who may struggle to meet the cost of basic items required when their children enter SHS.
The MP said his commitment is to ensure that all 2,269 BECE candidates from North Tongu who have secured SHS placement have the opportunity to continue their education without financial barriers preventing them from reporting to school.
The initiative highlights the role that targeted community support can play in complementing government efforts to improve access to education and ensure that students from different socioeconomic backgrounds have the opportunity to pursue their academic goals.
For the beneficiaries and their families, the provision of essential school items is expected to ease some of the financial pressure associated with the transition to SHS and allow students to begin their new academic journey with greater confidence.
