Accra Mayor supports schoolchildren with learning materials

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has supported 10 schoolchildren with financial assistance to procure exercise books and textbooks as part of activities marking the “My First Day at School” initiative.
The intervention followed the Mayor’s interaction with pupils of the Aayalolo Cluster of Schools, where he identified some children who had reported to school without the basic learning materials needed to participate effectively in lessons.

In addition to the financial support, Mayor Allotey provided a new pair of shoes to one of the pupils and pledged to support other children facing similar challenges.
Speaking to the media, the Mayor said the intervention formed part of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s broader social support initiatives and reflected the government’s commitment to improving access to education and ensuring that vulnerable children are not left behind.
He stressed the importance of giving every child an equal start to the academic year, noting that pupils who have the necessary learning materials are placed at an advantage over those who begin school without books and other essentials.
He likened the situation to a race in which some participants are allowed to start ahead of others, stressing that every child deserves a fair opportunity to succeed in education.
Mayor Allotey urged teachers to promptly bring the needs of pupils facing similar difficulties to the attention of the AMA, assuring them that the Assembly would intervene where necessary.

He also highlighted the importance of investing in children, noting that the pupils in the classroom today could become future Presidents, Mayors, Ministers and leaders in various fields.
The Mayor appealed to parents, teachers and other stakeholders to work together to ensure that no child is denied the opportunity to learn because of an inability to afford textbooks, exercise books, school bags, shoes or other essential educational materials.
During his engagement with the pupils, Mayor Allotey also encouraged them to take their education seriously, respect their teachers and remain disciplined.

He reminded them that their future ambitions begin with the lessons and discipline they acquire in the classroom.
“If you are going to become a Mayor, President or Minister, it starts from here,” he told the children.
He urged the pupils to listen attentively to their teachers, study diligently and allow God to guide them as they pursue their aspirations.
