Afadzato South Commissions Water Projects And Teachers’ Bungalow To Improve Rural Services

Story By: Zainab Ali

The Afadzato South District Assembly in the Volta Region has commissioned a series of development projects, including mechanised boreholes and a newly completed teachers’ bungalow, in an effort to improve access to essential services and strengthen living conditions in

The District Chief Executive Manfred Tawiah led the commissioning of the second phase of 20 development projects across the district. The exercise included water facilities at Goviefe Todzi, Have Atsiame, Nyagbo Odumase and Liati Dzogbega.
Residents of Goviefe Todzi welcomed the new mechanised borehole, describing it as significant relief for a community that had experienced water shortages for many years. Similar projects were handed over in other communities to improve access to potable water and support residents’ daily and economic activities.

The main ceremony took place at Tafi Mador, where a six-unit teachers’ bungalow with supporting facilities was officially commissioned. Togbui Adza Kofi V, chief of Tafi Mador, said inadequate accommodation had been a longstanding challenge and had made it difficult to attract and retain trained teachers in the area.
The new accommodation is expected to help address some of those difficulties by improving teachers’ living conditions. Access to suitable housing can be an important factor in encouraging trained educators to accept and remain in postings outside major urban centres.

However, the report also highlighted a continuing educational need in Liati Dzogbega, where residents appealed for a kindergarten because children currently have to travel to neighbouring communities to access early childhood education.
