AMA apprehends six commercial transport operators over alleged overcharging

Written by; Regina Bless

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has apprehended six commercial transport operators in the Central Business District (CBD) for allegedly charging passengers fares above the approved rates on routes to Awoshie, Kasoa and Madina.

The operators were reportedly picked up following complaints from passengers who alleged that some commercial drivers were charging fares beyond the acceptable rates for the affected routes.

The enforcement exercise forms part of efforts by the AMA to ensure compliance with approved transport fares and protect passengers from unlawful fare increases.

The Assembly is expected to engage the apprehended operators as investigations continue, with appropriate action to be taken where violations are established.

The AMA has also urged commuters to report suspected cases of fare exploitation to the relevant authorities and encouraged commercial transport operators to adhere strictly to approved fares.
