AMA honoured by NITA for excellence in data management

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has been honoured by the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) for its outstanding data management practices and the effective use of technology to improve institutional efficiency and service delivery.

The award was presented on Friday, August 21, 2026, during the 2026 National ICT Week Dinner and Awards Ceremony held at The Underbridge, East Legon.

Held under the theme “Innovation at Scale,” the event brought together ICT professionals, innovators, industry stakeholders and personalities from the technology and creative sectors to recognise contributions to Ghana’s digital transformation.

Receiving the award on behalf of the AMA, Head of the Assembly’s Management Information Systems (MIS) Unit, Mr Michael Adama, said the recognition reflected the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening the collection, management and utilisation of data.

According to him, reliable institutional data has become essential to effective planning, monitoring and evidence-based decision-making.

Mr Adama explained that the adoption of digital systems and improved data management practices has helped the Assembly streamline administrative processes, coordinate departmental activities and respond more effectively to the needs of residents and stakeholders.

He also highlighted the collaborative efforts of the MIS Unit and other departments, including the Public Affairs Unit, in supporting the Assembly’s broader digital transformation agenda.

Mr Adama expressed appreciation to NITA for the recognition and reaffirmed the AMA’s commitment to adopting innovative technological solutions to improve the management of Accra and enhance service delivery to residents.

The 2026 National ICT Week Dinner and Awards Ceremony provided a platform to celebrate institutions and individuals demonstrating excellence, innovation and leadership in the use of technology to support national development.
