The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is set to climax its 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities with a pink-themed departmental competition, breast cancer symposium and screening exercise aimed at promoting early detection and preventive healthcare among staff.
Dubbed “AMA Goes Pink,” the event is scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026, at City Hall.
The programme will feature a departmental “Wear Your Pink” competition, during which staff from various departments will showcase their creativity and solidarity in the fight against breast cancer through coordinated pink outfits.
Participating departments will also take part in a runway show to demonstrate their support for breast cancer awareness while promoting teamwork and stronger relationships among employees.
The event will further feature photoshoots to capture the colourful displays and highlight the Assembly’s collective commitment to breast cancer advocacy.
A breast cancer symposium will also be organised to educate participants on the importance of early detection, regular screening and timely medical intervention.
Participants are expected to receive information on potential warning signs, risk factors and the importance of seeking professional medical attention when unusual changes are detected.
Additionally, a breast screening exercise will be conducted to encourage employees to prioritise their health and take advantage of preventive healthcare services.
The Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, said the initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to promote a healthy workforce, strengthen health awareness and encourage positive health-seeking behaviour among employees.
He explained that staff would wear pink, the internationally recognised colour for breast cancer awareness, to demonstrate solidarity with individuals and families affected by the disease.
He added that the departmental competition would bring excitement to the programme while reinforcing the message that breast cancer awareness and prevention require collective participation.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed globally in October to intensify public education, promote early detection and encourage access to screening and treatment services.
The November 6 event will officially bring the Assembly’s 2026 Pink October activities to a close, with emphasis on education, screening and collective action in the fight against breast cancer.
