AMA to provide two boreholes to address Chorkor Water Challenges

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has announced plans for the provision of two boreholes for residents of the Chorkor Electoral Area in Ablekuma South to help address persistent water challenges in the community.
The Mayor made the announcement during a Community Dialogue on Social Protection and Social Issues organised by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection at Saban Park, Chemuenaa Last Stop, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The intervention follows concerns raised by residents over difficulties in accessing potable water. According to the Mayor, the boreholes are expected to provide a more reliable source of water for residents.
He further disclosed that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) would arrange an interim water supply every two days while preparations for the boreholes are underway.
Hon. Allotey urged community members and local leaders to identify suitable locations for the drilling of the boreholes. He also assured residents that the Assembly would provide two water tanks as a temporary measure to support the community.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme continues to provide financial support to extremely poor and vulnerable households.
She announced plans to expand LEAP beneficiaries from 350,000 to 400,000 households, with the ongoing onboarding of eligible households expected to support the expansion and resumption of payments.
The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Hon. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, also pledged his commitment to supporting the effective delivery of social protection programmes, particularly for vulnerable groups.
The community dialogue brought together residents and officials to discuss social protection programmes and challenges affecting vulnerable groups. Free NHIS registration and card renewal were also provided as part of the engagement.
