The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has cautioned newly posted National Service Personnel to demonstrate discipline, punctuality, integrity and professionalism, warning that lateness, absenteeism and breaches of workplace regulations will not be tolerated.
The directive was issued during an orientation programme held on Monday, November 2, 2026, to officially welcome the personnel and familiarise them with the Assembly’s mandate, organisational structure, administrative procedures and workplace expectations.

Addressing the personnel, the Head of Human Resources, Madam Evelyn Owusu, emphasised the importance of adhering to official working hours, maintaining regular attendance and exhibiting professional conduct in the discharge of their duties.
She warned against absenteeism, lateness and misconduct, reminding the personnel to comply with the Assembly’s administrative regulations and prescribed corporate dress code.
Madam Owusu further encouraged them to take their assignments seriously, demonstrate initiative and make meaningful contributions to the Assembly’s operations throughout their service period.
A representative of the Human Resource Department, Mr Emmanuel Acquah, Esq., provided an overview of the Assembly’s historical development and legal framework, noting that the AMA traces its origins to 1898, making it one of Ghana’s oldest local government institutions.

He explained that the Assembly operates under Article 240 of the 1992 Constitution, the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and Legislative Instrument (L.I. 2034), which establish its jurisdiction and functions.
He also outlined the responsibilities of the various departments and units, highlighting their contributions to local governance, development planning, sanitation, revenue mobilisation and the delivery of essential metropolitan services.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Affairs, Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, introduced the personnel to the operations of the Public Affairs Unit, stressing the importance of effective communication, digital media and public engagement in promoting the Assembly’s programmes, policies and development initiatives.
He encouraged the personnel to follow the Assembly’s official social media platforms, particularly its @AccraMetropolis accounts, to stay updated on ongoing projects and metropolitan activities.
Mr Ankrah noted that the increasing use of social media provides public institutions with opportunities to expand their communication reach, strengthen public engagement and showcase development initiatives to wider audiences.
The orientation programme forms part of the AMA’s efforts to familiarise the newly posted personnel with its operations and prepare them to contribute effectively to public service delivery.
