Ask a Stupid Question Day is observed every year on September 28 as a light-hearted reminder that there is no shame in asking questions, even when they may seem obvious, unusual, or “stupid.”

The day encourages people, especially students and young people, to speak up when they do not understand something instead of remaining silent out of fear of being judged. Sometimes, what appears to be a simple question can lead to an important conversation or help someone discover something new.

In schools, workplaces, and everyday life, people may avoid asking questions because they are afraid others will laugh at them. However, asking questions is an important part of learning and improving our understanding.

Ask a Stupid Question Day reminds us that the real mistake is not asking when you genuinely want to know. A question that sounds silly to one person may be meaningful to another.

The day can also encourage teachers, parents, colleagues, and friends to create environments where people feel comfortable asking questions without being embarrassed.
