Asogli Council Clarifies Ho Rituals, Says There Is No Travel Restric

The Asogli State Council has dismissed reports suggesting that movement into and out of Ho will be restricted during traditional cleansing and purification rituals scheduled for Friday night, September 11, 2026.
The Council, acting under the authority of the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, said there would be no travel restriction and that residents and visitors could move in and out of the Volta Regional capital as usual.
The clarification follows reports circulating on social media claiming that Ho would be placed under some form of travel restriction during the traditional rites.
According to the Ghana News Agency, the rituals are scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday and continue through the night until dawn on Saturday, September 12.
The Council explained that the rites are traditional cleansing and purification activities being undertaken by chiefs and elders following a recent series of road accidents in the township that resulted in loss of lives and property.
The traditional authorities said the rituals are intended to cleanse the town and seek spiritual protection, peace and the continued wellbeing of residents.
The Council also clarified that the rites are separate from the ongoing annual Asogli Te Za celebrations and do not form part of the official 2026 Te Za programme.
Residents, visitors and organisers of activities in Ho have nevertheless been urged to respect the solemnity of the traditional rites.
The Council appealed to churches and organisers of other programmes to, as much as practicable, conclude their activities by 9:30 p.m.
Pubs, drinking spots, recreational centres and similar establishments were also asked to end their activities by the same time and avoid actions that could interfere with the performance of the rites.
The Council has further urged the public to disregard misinformation and rely on official communication from the Asogli Traditional Council for accurate information concerning the exercise.
The clarification is expected to ease concerns among travellers and residents who may have been alarmed by reports of an alleged restriction on movement.
