At least seven injured in Gomoa Oguaakrom–New Winneba land dispute shooting

At least seven people, including a police officer, have reportedly been injured in a shooting incident involving residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in the Central Region.

The incident, which is believed to be linked to a longstanding land dispute, occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom, who claim ownership of land in New Winneba, allegedly entered the community and opened fire.

According to reports, the group attempted to lock up some shops in the area, but residents of New Winneba resisted the move. The confrontation subsequently escalated into a gun battle, leaving several people injured.

A police officer stationed at the New Winneba Police Station is also said to be among those injured in the incident.

The ensuing gunfire reportedly forced some residents to flee the community for their safety.

Police have since reinforced security in the area as efforts continue to restore calm and prevent further violence.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, while the conditions of those injured have not yet been officially confirmed.
