Ayalolo Buses Begin Contra-Flow Operations On Three Major Accra Corridors

A new traffic arrangement for Ayalolo Bus Rapid Transit services has begun in Accra as authorities introduce dedicated contra-flow lanes during peak hours.

The arrangement took effect on Tuesday, September 29, covering the Amasaman–Accra, Adenta–Accra and Kasoa–Accra corridors. It is scheduled to operate from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. during peak periods.

Under the arrangement, designated sections of the roads will temporarily allow authorised Ayalolo buses to travel against the normal direction of traffic in order to give them priority as they move towards Accra’s Central Business District.

The lanes are strictly reserved for Ayalolo buses. Private vehicles, taxis, trotros and other unauthorised road users are prohibited from using them.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service is expected to support enforcement at strategic points and major intersections.

Authorities say the measure is intended to improve the reliability of Ayalolo services, reduce journey times and ease congestion on major approaches to the CBD.

Commuters and motorists using the affected routes have therefore been urged to pay attention to road signs and comply with instructions from traffic officers as the new arrangement is implemented.
