The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has highlighted Ghana’s progress in restoring macroeconomic stability and the opportunities available to strengthen the country’s domestic debt capital market.

The Governor made the remarks on Thursday, 27 August 2026, when he delivered the keynote address at Fidelity Bank’s Debt Capital Market Conference in Accra.
Addressing participants at the conference, Dr. Asiama pointed to recent developments in Ghana’s financial markets as signs of renewed confidence in the government securities market.

According to the Governor, the reopening of the domestic bond market, declining Treasury bill yields and increased participation by institutional investors demonstrate growing confidence in Ghana’s economic recovery.
He stressed the importance of using the current period of improved macroeconomic conditions to build a deeper and more resilient domestic debt capital market.
A well-developed domestic debt market can provide government and businesses with greater access to long-term financing while giving investors more opportunities to participate in the country’s economic growth.

The Governor’s comments come as Ghana continues efforts to consolidate economic stability and strengthen the foundations of sustainable growth.
He also emphasised the need for continued development of the financial market to ensure that improvements in macroeconomic stability translate into stronger investment opportunities and greater resilience within the domestic financial system.

The conference brought together stakeholders from across the financial sector to discuss developments in Ghana’s debt capital market and the opportunities for further growth.
As confidence continues to return to the domestic securities market, the focus will now be on sustaining the gains made and creating a financial system capable of supporting Ghana’s long-term economic ambitions.
