Bawumia calls for greater support for Ghanaian exporters

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called for increased government support for exporters in Ghana to help boost the country’s export sector and strengthen economic growth.

Dr Bawumia made the call after meeting with the Federation of Association of Ghana Exporters (FAGE), which brought together representatives of both traditional and non-traditional exporters.

According to him, Ghana can draw lessons from export-driven economies, particularly the Asian Tigers, where exporters have benefited from various incentives and government support.

He said the discussions with FAGE focused on the major challenges confronting exporters and possible policy measures to address them.

Dr Bawumia identified several areas where exporters need greater support, including the regulatory environment, standards, trade infrastructure in destination countries, land acquisition and protection, access to credit, and the foreign exchange and payments regime.

He stressed that addressing these challenges would help create a more supportive environment for businesses engaged in international trade.

Dr Bawumia expressed appreciation to FAGE for participating in the engagement and for presenting proposals and ideas to his team.

He said the concerns raised by exporters would be important in shaping policies aimed at making Ghana’s export sector more competitive and supporting the country’s economic transformation.
