Story by: Regina Bless
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has visited 3R, a Japanese environmental technology company specialising in innovative recycling and soil-cleaning solutions, as part of his study tour of Japan.
During the visit, the former Vice President was introduced to advanced technologies developed by the company to recycle water and remove harmful heavy metals, including mercury, from contaminated soil.

The technology could offer valuable solutions to Ghana’s growing environmental challenges, particularly the destruction of waterbodies and farmlands caused by illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Dr Bawumia described the experience as inspiring, highlighting the importance of adopting modern technology and sustainable approaches to restoring polluted lands and water resources.

He emphasised that innovation, determination and long-term planning are essential to protecting Ghana’s natural resources and securing a cleaner and safer environment for future generations.

The visit also highlights the potential for Ghana to explore international technological partnerships in its efforts to combat the devastating effects of illegal mining.
