Story By: Zainab Ali

The family of veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Bernice Offei has announced funeral arrangements for the celebrated singer, who died on September 12, 2026, at the age of 63.

The late musician, born Bernice Ofeibea Djoleto, will be laid to rest in Accra on Saturday, November 14, 2026. Her funeral arrangements are expected to bring together family members, friends, colleagues, church members and admirers who appreciated her contribution to Ghanaian gospel music.

A remembrance night has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 11, at the Legon Interdenominational Church. The programme is expected to begin at 7:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for mourners to remember the late singer and reflect on her life and musical legacy.

On the day of the funeral, mourners will be allowed to file past her remains between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., followed by the burial service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the same venue. Her interment will be private, while the final funeral rites will take place after the burial service.

A thanksgiving service is also scheduled for Sunday, November 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Legon Interdenominational Church.

Bernice Offei was a respected figure in Ghana’s gospel music industry, with a career that earned her recognition for songs including “Kaa She Gbeyei,” “It By Grace,” “Nyame Kokroko” and “Adom Ara Kwa.” Her music, known for its messages of faith and devotion, established her as a familiar voice among gospel music lovers.

Her contribution to the industry was recognised in 2009 when she won the Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year awards at the Ghana Music Awards, now known as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards. The honours reflected her talent as both a vocalist and a songwriter.

Beyond music, Offei also had an academic and professional background. Her family includes her husband, Professor Samuel Kwame Offei, a former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, and their two sons, Kevin Kwesi Offei and Daniel Kweku Offei.

Her passing represents a loss to Ghana’s gospel music community, where her songs continue to form part of the repertoire enjoyed by listeners across generations.

As the family prepares to bid her farewell, the announced funeral arrangements will give admirers an opportunity to honour a musician whose work helped shape the country’s gospel music landscape.
