BoG To Introduce Upgraded Cedi Notes In November

The Bank of Ghana is set to introduce upgraded Ghana cedi banknotes, known as the Heritage Series, from November 3, 2026.

The new notes are part of efforts by the central bank to modernise the country’s currency and improve the durability and security features of the banknotes.

The Bank of Ghana has also clarified that the Heritage Series will not introduce a denomination above the existing GH¢200 note.

The central bank is encouraging the public, businesses and financial institutions to handle the new banknotes properly to preserve their quality and reduce the cost associated with replacing damaged currency.

The introduction of the upgraded notes is expected to mark another major change in Ghana’s currency system while maintaining the existing denomination structure.
