Education Ministry to Get 2% of GETFund Allocation For Emergency Interventions

The Ministry of Education is to receive 2% of the Ghana Education Trust Fund’s (GETFund) annual allocation to undertake emergency interventions in the education sector.

The dedicated funding is expected to enable the Ministry to swiftly respond to unforeseen infrastructure emergencies that disrupt teaching and learning.

According to the Minister of education, the reform seeks to make GETFund more flexible and timely in addressing needs, even as it continues to fulfill its primary mandate of financing school infrastructure and logistics.

The Ministry says the 2% emergency window will be managed under strict accountability.

Ahead of the Second High-Level Conference on Education and Emergencies in West Africa, which focuses on African-led solutions to protecting children, the Director and Founder of Association for Change, Dr. Lesley Hayford, shared findings from the organisation’s research on Ghana.
