Five Arrested Over Alleged Weapons Trafficking As Police Recover Eight AK-47 Rifles

The Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects in connection with alleged weapons trafficking following an operation that resulted in the recovery of several firearms.

Police say the operation led to the recovery of eight AK-47 assault rifles, one submachine gun and two foreign-made pistols.

The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the security services to disrupt the illegal movement and supply of firearms in the country.

The five suspects have reportedly appeared before the Accra Circuit Court in connection with the alleged weapons-trafficking case.

The development has raised concerns about the availability and movement of high-powered firearms, particularly amid wider security efforts to tackle armed robbery and other violent crimes.

Police operations targeting suspected criminal networks have also intensified in several parts of the country, with authorities reporting arrests and the recovery of weapons during separate operations.

The latest arrests are expected to form part of investigations aimed at determining the source of the weapons, their intended destinations and whether other individuals or groups are connected to the alleged trafficking network.
