Ghana and Luxembourg explore new areas of cooperation

Ghana and Luxembourg have held discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP, met with Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel.

The meeting focused on identifying practical opportunities for economic cooperation, particularly in value addition, digital technology, agro-processing and industrial transformation.

Both sides emphasised the importance of partnerships that can create employment opportunities, strengthen local industries and promote sustainable economic development.

The two ministers also exchanged views on international and regional developments, democratic values, human rights and security. They highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue and stronger cooperation through multilateral institutions.

Ghana and Luxembourg also explored ways to deepen engagement with European partners, particularly in development cooperation, investment and people-to-people relations.

A key outcome of the meeting was an agreement to begin discussions on a potential visa waiver arrangement between Ghana and Luxembourg, as well as the broader Benelux region.

The proposed arrangement could further strengthen people-to-people exchanges and create opportunities for deeper economic, diplomatic and institutional cooperation.

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to continued dialogue and closer bilateral relations while working together on shared priorities within the multilateral system.
