Ghana announces visa-free travel to Maldives, Zambia and Antigua and Barbuda

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced new visa waiver arrangements between Ghana and Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda, allowing eligible Ghanaian passport holders to travel to the three countries without obtaining an entry visa.

The announcement follows the ratification by the Parliament of Ghana and the entry into force of the respective visa waiver agreements.

Under the new arrangements, the visa-free access applies to holders of Ordinary, Service and Diplomatic Passports, with different maximum periods of stay for each destination:

• Maldives: Up to 30 days
• Zambia: Up to 30 days
• Antigua and Barbuda: Up to 90 days

The Ministry, however, cautioned travellers that visa-free entry does not exempt them from meeting the immigration and entry requirements of their destination countries.

Ghanaian travellers are required to travel with a valid passport and any other documents requested by the relevant authorities. They must also ensure that their stay does not exceed the period permitted under the respective visa waiver arrangements.

The Ministry further clarified that travellers intending to work, study, reside or undertake activities requiring specific authorisation must obtain the appropriate permits or approvals from the relevant authorities.

Travellers have also been advised to confirm current entry, health and other applicable requirements with the relevant authorities or the nearest Embassy or High Commission before travelling, as such requirements may change.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the new arrangements form part of Ghana’s efforts to facilitate the movement of Ghanaian citizens and strengthen bilateral relations with partner countries.
