Accra has become the centre of a major celebration of dance and culture as the Ghana Dance Festival 2026 gets underway with a seven-day programme bringing together dancers, performers, instructors and dance enthusiasts from across the country.

The festival officially opened on Tuesday, September 15, with a social dance session at Zen Gardens in Labone. The opening featured a blend of Highlife, Jama, traditional Ghanaian dances and Azonto, setting the tone for a week dedicated to celebrating Ghana’s diverse dance culture.

Organised by Dancetera, the festival will continue until Monday, September 21, with activities taking place at different locations across Accra. The programme includes dance workshops, battles, seminars, performances and social dance sessions designed to attract both professionals and people who simply enjoy dancing.

The programme continues today, Wednesday, September 16, with Akwaba Night with AKC at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel from 6:30 p.m. An after-party featuring Kiz Infinity is also scheduled for Luna Bar in Soho, Airport, from 10 p.m.

The festival will continue with a Salsa Rave on Thursday at the African Regent Hotel, while subsequent activities will feature more dance styles and social events. The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, at Alliance Française in Airport.

Beyond entertainment, the festival provides a platform for dancers to connect, learn new skills and interact with other professionals within the creative industry. Its organisers have positioned the event as a celebration of dance while also creating opportunities for people involved in the sector.

With dance playing an important role in Ghanaian entertainment and cultural expression, the festival is expected to keep Accra buzzing throughout the week as participants and audiences come together to celebrate movement, music and Ghanaian creativity.
