Ghana Education Service announces November 16 date for payment of 2025 promotion arrears

Story by: Regina Bless

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that outstanding promotion arrears owed to staff who are yet to receive their payments are expected to be paid on November 16, 2026.

In a letter dated October 27, 2026, and addressed to Regional Directors, GES Management said it is working with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to ensure that all affected staff receive their outstanding arrears.

According to the statement, the delay occurred because the Controller and Accountant-General’s payment system had been closed for the processing of October salaries when the necessary inputs were expected to be submitted.

The payment system is scheduled to reopen on October 28, 2026, to allow the required inputs to be made and facilitate payments to affected staff by November 16.

GES Management also assured staff that discrepancies identified in the promotion arrears payments made on October 16, 2026, would be rectified accordingly.

The Service expressed regret over the delay and inconvenience caused, while directing Regional Directors to communicate the update to all affected staff.

The announcement is expected to provide clarity to teachers and other GES personnel who have been waiting for their outstanding promotion arrears.
