Ghana, Norway Deepen Cooperation in Trade, Energy and Regional Security

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held discussions with Norway’s Minister of International Development, H.E. Åsmund Grøver Aukrust, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between Ghana and Norway, with both sides exploring new opportunities for deeper bilateral cooperation.

Key areas discussed included trade and investment, particularly in oil and gas, renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI) and agribusiness. The two ministers also considered opportunities to expand collaboration in maritime security, education, skills development and business-to-business partnerships.

Regional security developments in West Africa also featured prominently, with discussions touching on Ghana’s efforts to enhance regional cooperation in addressing terrorism and violent extremism.

Minister Ablakwa and Minister Aukrust further discussed the implementation of the Ghana–Norway Double Taxation Agreement, as well as mutual support for international candidatures.

As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, Minister Ablakwa has accepted an invitation to undertake an official visit to Norway later this year.

The engagement underscores Ghana and Norway’s shared commitment to deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.
