Ghana Police introduces automated traffic law enforcement system dubbed Traffitech-GH

Story by: Regina Bless

The Ghana Police Service has officially commenced the implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement system, known as Traffitech-GH, aimed at improving road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations across the country.

In a press release dated November 4, 2026, the Police Service announced that the system officially took effect on November 1, 2026, as part of efforts to automate the enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations.

Under the new system, motorists are advised to observe traffic regulations and follow approved procedures when verifying and paying traffic violation fines.

The Police Service explained that genuine traffic violation notifications will be sent from the official sender ID GPS-MTTD, cautioning motorists against suspicious messages from ordinary mobile phone numbers.

Motorists who receive an Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) or traffic ticket are required to verify the vehicle’s photograph, registration number, location, date and time of the alleged offence. They are also encouraged to watch the accompanying video where available.

According to the release, traffic fines can be paid through the National Identification Authority (NIB) Payment Portal by visiting https://traffitech-ghpay.nib.com.gh, selecting the ‘Make Payment’ option and entering the relevant ticket number.

Alternatively, motorists can pay through USSD by dialling 7100# and following the prompts using their ticket number.

The Police Service has also cautioned motorists and vehicle owners against falling victim to fraud, stressing that traffic fines should never be paid into personal mobile money numbers or unofficial accounts.

For further enquiries and assistance, the public can contact the Police Service on 059 692 2402.

The Ghana Police Service has expressed appreciation to motorists, vehicle owners and transport operators for their cooperation and support, adding that the initiative is intended to promote safer roads and strengthen compliance with traffic laws.
