GMet forecasts rain and thunderstorms across parts of Ghana today

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has forecast changing weather conditions across the country today, Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with rain and thunderstorms expected in parts of Ghana.

According to GMet’s morning forecast, misty and mostly cloudy conditions prevailed over several areas during the early hours, with isolated light rain or thunderstorms recorded in some locations.

As the day progresses, periods of sunshine are expected in several parts of the country. However, residents in the Middle and Transition sectors should remain alert, as thunderstorms and rainfall are expected to develop in some areas.

The afternoon forecast indicates that communities including Kintampo, Atebubu, Buipe, Techiman, Amantin and Ejura could experience thunderstorms and rain as the evening approaches. Other parts of the Middle sector may also record slight to moderate rainfall.

GMet has also warned that a rainstorm system developing over southeastern Burkina Faso could move into Ghana’s northern sector from the late afternoon into the evening, potentially bringing thunderstorms and rainfall to parts of the area.

Along the coastal areas, conditions are expected to be relatively calmer, with sunshine and some cloud cover dominating. However, isolated light showers cannot be ruled out.

The state of the sea has also been classified as rough, with GMet advising people who depend on the sea, including fishermen and other maritime users, to exercise caution.

With weather conditions expected to change throughout the day, residents, motorists and commuters are encouraged to monitor weather updates and take precautions, particularly in areas where thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected.

Ghana’s weather today therefore remains a mixture of sunshine, cloudiness and rainfall, with the Middle, Transition and Northern sectors facing a greater possibility of thunderstorms later in the day.
