The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., has highlighted Ghana’s efforts to transform its mineral resources into sustainable economic prosperity through the GoldBod model.
Speaking at the African Minerals Policy Forum, Mining in Motion 2026, Mr. Gyamfi delivered a keynote address outlining the achievements of GoldBod and the importance of ensuring that Ghana derives greater economic benefits from its mineral wealth.
He highlighted the board’s contributions to boosting gold exports, generating foreign exchange, promoting local gold refining and creating employment opportunities.
Mr. Gyamfi also stressed the need for African countries to take greater ownership of their mineral resources and strengthen the participation of indigenous businesses in the mining value chain.
According to him, African nations must prioritise policies that enable them to retain more value from their natural resources rather than relying primarily on the export of raw minerals.
He emphasised that greater local participation and value addition are essential to ensuring that mineral wealth translates into meaningful economic opportunities and improved livelihoods for citizens.
The discussions at the forum underscore the importance of effective mineral resource management, strategic partnerships and policies that promote sustainable development across the continent.
Ghana’s GoldBod model was presented as an approach aimed at strengthening the country’s gold sector while increasing the economic benefits derived from its mineral resources.
