GRA Targets Major Reduction In VAT Gap By 2028

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has set a target of reducing Ghana’s Value Added Tax gap from the current 60 percent to about 30 percent by the end of 2028.

The target forms part of the Authority’s VAT Strategic Plan, which is aimed at improving compliance and increasing VAT collections across the country.

Commissioner for the Domestic Tax Revenue Division of the GRA, Dr Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, disclosed the target during the launch of the VAT Compliance Campaign.

He said achieving the goal would require the Authority to collect significantly more VAT from businesses already within the tax base while also improving overall compliance.

The campaign is expected to involve education, sensitisation, enforcement and awareness creation to help businesses and consumers better understand their VAT obligations.

The GRA has also urged consumers to demand VAT invoices when making purchases, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s tax system and revenue mobilisation.
