GRNMA Rules Out Strike Over Detention of Salomey Awiti Bafoh

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has ruled out a strike action over the detention of Principal Nursing Officer, Salomey Awiti Bafoh.

In a statement to clarify its position, the leadership of the Association said while it is concerned about the welfare of its member, the circumstances surrounding her arrest do not constitute an attack on nursing practice that would warrant industrial action.

Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a Principal Nursing Officer based in Techiman, was arrested on September 13 at Hansua in the Techiman Municipality and arraigned before the Adenta Circuit Court on a charge of abetment of crime to wit publication of false news.

The court has remanded her into custody, with her next appearance set for September 28-30.

Her lawyers, led by Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, have filed for bail at the High Court, arguing the investigation is complete and her continued detention affects her three minor children.

The Association has urged its members to remain calm but resolute as national leadership navigates what it described as a legal hurdle, adding that further communication will be issued as developments unfold.
