Herty Twens Opens Up About Putting Her Modelling Career On Hold For Family

Story By: Zainab Ali

Ghanaian fashion entrepreneur and former model Herty Twens has opened up about the personal and professional sacrifices she made to prioritise marriage, motherhood and family responsibilities, revealing that she stepped away from her modelling business for seven years.

Herty, who established Gold Model Agency and School in 2011, explained that her decision to take a break came at a time when her family responsibilities required more of her attention. As her family grew, she decided to put her professional ambitions on hold to concentrate on raising her children and managing her home.
According to her, the decision was not an indication that she had lost interest in the modelling industry. Rather, it was a personal choice to give attention to a different stage of her life. She said the experience allowed her to grow, embrace motherhood and develop a fresh perspective on both life and business.

After seven years away, Herty is now preparing to return to the industry and revive Gold Model Agency. She described the comeback as an opportunity to build on the foundation she established more than a decade ago while creating opportunities for young people interested in modelling.

Her return will be marked by the fifth edition of the Golden Hair and Fashion Show, scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Accra City Hotel. The event is expected to bring together designers, hairstylists, models and other creative industry professionals.

Herty explained that the upcoming show will also give students of her agency an opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have acquired through months of training. She hopes the event will highlight the creativity and potential of Ghana’s fashion industry.

Her story has brought renewed attention to the difficult decisions women sometimes make when balancing motherhood, marriage and professional ambitions, particularly in industries that demand constant visibility and commitment.
