Honouring Police Invitations Is Optional Sosu Slams EOCO

Following the attempted arrest of the MP for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awoah, the human rights lawyer and member of parliament for Madina Francis Xavier has accused the Economic and Organised Crime Office EOCO and other security agencies of abusing the use of invitations to effect arrests.

He advised the police and other agencies to abide by constitutional rights and proper legal channels in their investigations.

Meanwhile, EOCO in a statement said it had previously invited Mr Baffour Awuah on two occasions in February 2026 to assist with investigations but the invitations were ignored, prompting action to secure his presence in line with the law.

Adding his voice to call, Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has called on the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, Raymond Archer, to understand the constitutional imperatives of Parliament and avoid actions that affect the dignity of the legislative house.

Speaking on the attempted arrest, Mr Kyei Mensah said EOCO should be mindful of Article 117, 118 and 123 of the 1992 Constitution which provide safeguards for how Members of Parliament are to be engaged by state agencies.
