How Social Media Helped Hunnyboy Secure Shatta Wale Collaboration

Story By: Zainab Ali

Fast-rising Ghanaian musician Hunnyboy has revealed how his determination on social media eventually helped him secure a collaboration with dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale.

The Afro-fusion artiste, born Edward Tagoe, explained that the opportunity did not come through a major industry connection. Instead, he repeatedly promoted his music online and directly tagged Shatta Wale while pushing a song he believed would benefit from the dancehall star’s voice.

According to Hunnyboy, he initially had a relatively small following and was more focused on platforms such as Instagram and X. He said he once posted a song with a caption imagining what it would sound like with Shatta Wale on it.

The post generated comments from people tagging Shatta Wale, encouraging Hunnyboy and his friends to continue pushing the idea. Their persistence eventually caught the attention of Shatta Wale, who commented on one of Hunnyboy’s older videos and asked him to contact his manager, Sammy Flex.

Hunnyboy said he initially suspected that the account could be an impersonator, but later discovered that it was genuinely Shatta Wale.

The interaction eventually led to their collaboration on “Winning,” released in February 2025. Hunnyboy said the song opened major opportunities for him, including an appearance at ShattaFest.

The young musician is now preparing for his debut album, with “Peace of Mind” among the songs leading his current campaign.

His story highlights how social media has become an increasingly important avenue for emerging Ghanaian artistes seeking opportunities and industry connections.
