Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang encourages young women to harness technology for Ghana’s digital future

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has encouraged young women to use technology and digital skills to address challenges in their communities and contribute to Ghana’s development.

She made the remarks when she joined the Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa Foundation (HACSA) for the graduation ceremony of the fifth cohort of its Tech4Girls programme.

Prof. Opoku Agyemang said initiatives that equip girls and young women with digital skills are essential to ensuring that they have a meaningful role in Ghana’s digital future.

According to her, young people should not only acquire technological knowledge but also be empowered to apply their skills to solve real-world problems, establish businesses and transition into sustainable employment.

She noted that government is pursuing these objectives through programmes including the One Million Coders Programme and the Young Women in ICT Programme, alongside partnerships aimed at expanding access to digital training and employment opportunities.

The Vice President also urged the graduates to remain adaptable as technology continues to evolve. She stressed that while the tools and technologies they learn today may change, critical thinking, adaptability and problem-solving skills will remain valuable throughout their careers.

She encouraged the graduates to identify challenges within their communities and use their knowledge and creativity to develop practical solutions.

Prof. Opoku Agyemang congratulated the graduates and commended HACSA’s leadership, staff, partners, parents and guardians for supporting initiatives that create opportunities for young women to develop their skills and participate actively in the digital economy.
