Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has joined National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders, members and sympathisers to launch six historiographies documenting the party’s history, achievements, challenges and lessons since its formation.
Representing President John Dramani Mahama at the launch, the Vice President highlighted the importance of preserving historical records to strengthen institutional memory and help future generations understand the evolution of political organisations and Ghana’s democratic journey.

The six publications bring together important historical materials, including the NDC’s constitutions, electoral manifestos and documentary records covering significant periods of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
The initiative seeks to provide a comprehensive record of the party’s development while preserving key decisions, experiences and events that have shaped its political history.
The NDC, since its establishment, has been guided by social democratic principles, with an emphasis on social justice, equal opportunities and development that addresses the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended the party’s National Chairman, the Functional Executive Committee, Mr. Israel Yao Dzantor, and all individuals whose contributions made the publication project possible.
She emphasised that effective record-keeping must go beyond preserving documents to capturing the circumstances surrounding decisions, the perspectives considered and the outcomes that followed.
According to her, accurate and accessible records are essential for understanding how institutions evolve, learning from past experiences and ensuring that important historical developments are not lost to time.

The launch also underscored the broader need for institutions across Ghana to strengthen their documentation practices and make historical information accessible for research, education and public understanding.
The initiative is expected to contribute to the preservation of the NDC’s institutional history while encouraging a stronger culture of documentation within Ghanaian political and public institutions.
