Kumawu MP Reveals Extortion At District Assemblies Over Processing Of Documents

Member of Parliament for Kumawu and Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Independent Constitutional Bodies Committee, Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, has made damning allegations of corruption and deliberate bureaucracy within some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

According to the Kumawu legislator, some assembly technocrats and administrative staff have turned routine document processing into a money-making scheme, demanding what he described as “brown envelopes” before attending to official documents submitted from MPs’ offices.

Hon. Anim alleged that officials who have been entrusted with facilitating development at the district level now frustrate efforts by deliberately delaying documentation when their demands are not met.
