Love is more than just a feeling

Story by: Regina Bless

Love is one of the strongest emotions people experience, but a healthy relationship involves much more than simply having feelings for someone.

True love is often reflected through respect, honesty, communication and consideration. Two people may care deeply about each other, but maintaining a healthy relationship requires effort from both sides.

Communication is particularly important. Being able to express feelings, discuss disagreements and listen to one another can help couples understand each other better. Keeping problems bottled up or avoiding difficult conversations can create distance over time.

Trust is another important part of love. Trust develops when people are honest, keep their promises and respect each other’s boundaries. Without trust, even strong feelings can be affected by suspicion and insecurity.

Love should also allow people to remain individuals. Being in a relationship does not mean giving up personal goals, friendships, interests or identity. Healthy partners can support each other’s growth while building a life together.

It is also important to understand that love should not be confused with control, manipulation or disrespect. Constant jealousy, insults, threats or attempts to isolate someone are not healthy expressions of love.

Ultimately, love is not only about how someone makes you feel when everything is going well. It is also about how both people treat each other, communicate during difficult moments and make an effort to build mutual respect.

A lasting relationship is therefore not built by feelings alone. It is built through consistent actions, understanding, trust and a willingness to grow together.
