The newly appointed Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has toured major waste management facilities across the Greater Accra Region as part of efforts to assess challenges confronting the sanitation sector.

The tour also focused on identifying investment opportunities and practical measures to strengthen Ghana’s waste management infrastructure and improve sanitation outcomes.

Among the facilities visited were the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP), the Achimota and Jamestown Waste Transfer Stations, all subsidiaries of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), as well as the Kpone Landfill Site.

The visit provided the Minister with an opportunity to engage with waste management operations on the ground and gain firsthand insight into the challenges affecting the sector.

The assessment is expected to inform measures aimed at improving waste collection, processing, recycling and disposal while promoting more sustainable waste management practices across the country.
