Mahama commends progress on Nadowli 24-Hour market project

President John Dramani Mahama has commended the contractor working on the 24-Hour Market project at Nadowli in the Upper West Region for making good progress and demonstrating the capacity to commence work.

The President made the commendation during an inspection of the project as part of his #ResettingGhana Tour of the Upper West Region.

President Mahama said the government’s plan to establish 261 24-Hour Markets across the country would provide reliable and modern trading spaces for farmers and traders while creating opportunities to strengthen local economies.

He noted that the projects are expected to support agricultural communities by providing dependable markets where farmers can sell their produce, reduce post-harvest losses and improve economic activity.

President Mahama also urged other contractors engaged on the 24-Hour Market projects to emulate the progress recorded at Nadowli and demonstrate their capacity to begin construction.

He explained that contractors are expected to mobilise their own resources to commence work and will receive payment after achieving 15 percent completion of their respective projects.

The President’s remarks highlight the government’s emphasis on ensuring that contractors move projects from the planning stage to actual construction and delivery.

The Nadowli project is therefore expected to serve as an example of the pace and commitment required to deliver the government’s 24-Hour Market initiative.

The broader programme forms part of efforts to improve infrastructure, support farmers and traders, create jobs and stimulate economic activity in communities across Ghana.

As the government continues its #ResettingGhana agenda, the successful implementation of the 24-Hour Market projects will depend on timely construction, effective supervision and the ability of contractors to deliver quality infrastructure within agreed timelines.
