Mahama meets Alex Soros in New York ahead of UN General Assembly

President John Dramani Mahama has commenced his engagements on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly with a meeting with Alex Soros, Chairman and Founder of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), in New York.

The meeting, held on Sunday, focused on opportunities for collaboration and support for regional integration efforts within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Alex Soros, an investor and philanthropist who has previously engaged with President Mahama, expressed interest through the Open Society Foundations in exploring partnerships that could support ECOWAS integration initiatives.

The meeting also served as a precursor to a planned presidential roundtable being coordinated by the Foundation. The roundtable is expected to bring together a select group of global foundation presidents and chief executive officers to discuss areas of potential collaboration and support.

Participating foundations and organisations are expected to include the Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundations, Hewlett Packard, Hilton, Rockefeller Foundation, Humanity United, Anglo American, Chandler and UBS Optimus, among others.

President Mahama is in New York for the 81st UN General Assembly, where he is scheduled to participate in a series of high-level diplomatic, development and investment engagements aimed at advancing Ghana’s international partnerships and development priorities.
