President John Dramani Mahama has outlined key priorities under the Accra Reset agenda, aimed at reducing Africa’s economic dependence and promoting industrial growth, food security and shared prosperity across the continent.
Speaking at the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, President Mahama emphasised the need for African countries to process more of their raw materials locally rather than exporting them in their unprocessed form.
He called for stronger industrial capacity to enable African economies to manufacture finished goods, create employment opportunities and retain more value from the continent’s natural resources.
The President also highlighted the importance of achieving food and energy security, noting that African countries must strengthen their ability to meet their own essential needs and reduce dependence on external sources.
Another key priority he identified was the effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which seeks to increase trade among African countries by reducing trade barriers and creating a more integrated continental market.
President Mahama said these measures were necessary to build stronger African economies, reduce structural dependence and ensure that the continent’s resources contribute more directly to the well-being of its people.
The Accra Reset agenda seeks to promote a new approach to Africa’s development by encouraging greater economic independence, regional cooperation and locally driven solutions to the continent’s challenges.
His remarks at the forum underscore the importance of African countries working together to build resilient economies capable of delivering sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
