Mahama urges Judiciary to embrace reforms and technology for faster justice

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the Judiciary to undertake reforms aimed at improving efficiency, embracing appropriate technology and making the justice system more accessible to all Ghanaians.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of three new Justices of the Supreme Court in Accra, President Mahama said public confidence in the Judiciary goes beyond the quality of court decisions. He noted that the conduct of judges, accessibility of the courts and the timely delivery of justice are equally important.

The President expressed concern about prolonged court cases, unnecessary adjournments and delays in delivering judgments, warning that such challenges could erode public confidence in the justice system and ultimately result in a denial of justice.

He therefore called for measures to improve the efficiency of the courts and reduce delays, stressing the need to use technology where appropriate to support the administration of justice.

President Mahama also urged the Supreme Court to ensure that its judgments are clear, comprehensive and well-reasoned, providing reliable guidance to lower courts, public institutions, legal practitioners and citizens.

He emphasised that a justice system that delivers decisions promptly and communicates them clearly is essential to strengthening the rule of law and maintaining public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
