A 30-year-old farmer, Emmanuel Kwofie, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to assaulting his wife in an incident that went viral on social media.

The conviction was secured by the Agona Nkwanta District Police Command on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, following investigations into the assault.

According to a press release issued by the Western Regional Police Command, Kwofie is married to Diana Mensah, a second-hand clothing dealer. The couple reportedly live together at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality.

Investigations revealed that on October 8, 2026, Kwofie accused his wife of having an extramarital affair and subjected her to severe physical abuse, as captured in the viral video.

Following the incident, Kwofie was arrested on October 12 and subsequently arraigned before the Agona Nkwanta District Court on October 14. The court was presided over by His Worship Mr Kuma Selorm Dzata.

Kwofie was charged with assault and pleaded guilty to the charge. He was consequently convicted on his own plea and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.

The case has renewed attention on domestic violence and the need to address physical abuse within relationships and marriages. Allegations of infidelity do not justify violence against a partner, and disputes within relationships should be handled without resorting to physical abuse.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring that perpetrators of violence are brought before the courts.

The press release was signed by Chief Superintendent of Police Olivia Et Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, on October 14, 2026.
