Manhyia South MP Arrest Attempt Uncalled For NDC Communicator Faults EOCO Tactics

NDC communication team member Elliot Nene Ayittah has condemned the manner in which the Economic and Organised Crime Office EOCO attempted to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

Speaking on the brouhaha surrounding the MP’s arrest, Mr Ayittah said even though state institutions have the mandate to investigate and invite citizens, the method adopted by EOCO operatives at the Accra High Court on Wednesday September 23 was inappropriate.

He argued that the attempted arrest on the court premises created unnecessary tension and undermined due process, particularly when the matter involved a sitting Member of Parliament who had earlier engaged the Office through his law firm.

According to him, EOCO should have followed laid down parliamentary procedures by writing to the Speaker of Parliament to facilitate the MP’s appearance rather than resorting to what he described as a Rambo style operation.

Mr Ayittah added that such actions risk eroding public confidence in law enforcement and could be perceived as political intimidation.
