Mayor of Accra, KoKMA MCE distribute 3,200 meals and drinks to mark birthdays

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and the Korle Klottey Municipal Chief Executive (KoKMA), Hon. Alfred Allotey Gaisie, have marked their birthdays by distributing 3,200 packs of food and drinks to traders, sanitation workers, security personnel and members of the public across parts of central Accra.
The birthday gesture, held on Monday, September 7, 2026, began at Kinbu Street and continued through the Aayalolo Bus Terminal, Tudu, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Station, Railways and the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters, before ending at COCOBOD.
Beneficiaries received packs of kenkey with fish and sardines, alongside assorted drinks, as the two chief executives moved through the various locations to interact with traders, commuters and other residents.
Speaking to market women during the exercise, Mayor Allotey said the initiative was intended to encourage traders to continue supporting the Assembly’s sanitation efforts, particularly activities associated with National Sanitation Day.
He emphasised the importance of city authorities maintaining a strong connection with residents and recognising the contributions of traders, sanitation workers, security personnel and others who contribute to the daily functioning of Accra.
“We have to feed the streets,” the Mayor said.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Mayor and the KoKMA MCE for the gesture, saying it brought joy to many people and provided an opportunity for the two municipal leaders to engage directly with residents.
They prayed for long life, good health and strength for the two chief executives and encouraged them to continue supporting traders and residents as part of efforts to improve livelihoods and conditions within the capital.
The exercise also served as an opportunity for the Mayor and KoKMA MCE to strengthen their engagement with residents and reinforce the need for cooperation between city authorities and the public in promoting cleaner streets, improved sanitation and a better-managed Accra.
