NADMO moves to nullify building permits issued in waterways as it intensifies its flood prevention measures.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) says it will no longer recognise building permits issued by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for structures sited within the Weija Dam spillway and waterways.

The move is part of renewed efforts to curb encroachment and perennial flooding in downstream communities following the annual spillage of excess water from the Weija Dam.

Checks indicate that houses built within the buffer zone and flood plains have no valid permits, while others were issued permits illegally by some assembly officials and traditional leaders in restricted areas.
