National Brave Day: A celebration of courage

Story by: Regina Bless

National Brave Day is observed as a reminder to recognise courage, resilience and the people who encourage us to face difficult moments with strength.

Being brave does not always mean doing something dramatic or fearless. Sometimes, bravery is simply getting out of bed when life feels difficult, speaking up when something is wrong, asking for help, starting over after failure, or taking a step towards a goal despite being afraid.

The day also highlights the importance of supporting the people around us. A simple word of encouragement, a listening ear or a reminder that someone is not alone can give them the courage to keep going.

For young people especially, bravery can take many forms. It can mean resisting negative peer pressure, standing up against bullying, pursuing an unfamiliar career path, admitting a mistake or having an honest conversation about personal struggles.

National Brave Day therefore gives us an opportunity to reflect on the challenges we have overcome and appreciate those who have stood by us during difficult times.

Courage does not mean the absence of fear. It means choosing to move forward even when fear is present.

So today, celebrate your own courage, encourage someone who may be struggling, and remember that even small acts of bravery can make a meaningful difference.
