The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a nationwide protest dubbed “Y3gye Y3 Sika” to wit “Our Money” on Tuesday, November 3, to demand accountability over controversies surrounding the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa and passport related issues.
The protest, announced at a press conference by the party’s National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, is intended to press government for answers over public expenditure on the evacuation and the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.
According to the party, demonstrators will converge at 6:00 a.m. at Villaggio near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange opposite Accra Mall.
The march will proceed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before ending at Jubilee House, the seat of government.
The NPP is demanding the immediate dismissal of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, investigations by the Attorney General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor, and prosecution of any officials found culpable.
The party has raised concerns over a reported GH¢49.72 million spent on the evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians from South Africa, citing alleged discrepancies in invoices and payment records.
It is demanding publication of original invoices, contracts, proof of payment for all charter flights, the full passenger manifest and beneficiary list, as well as an independent audit of the total expenditure.
On passports, the NPP wants the government to publish details of all diplomatic and service passports issued since January 2025, including qualifying office, status of each recipient, approving authority, and to cancel any passports found to have been issued improperly.
The NPP has urged its youth organizers, constituency and polling station executives, women’s wings and supporters across the country to mobilize for the protest, while calling for discipline and peaceful conduct.
