NPP Clears 47 Aspirants Ahead Of 2026 National Officers’ Elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared all 47 aspirants who filed nominations to contest its 2026 National Officers’ Elections, paving the way for the next stage of the party’s internal electoral process.

The decision followed a four-day vetting exercise held from August 31 to September 3, 2026, to determine the eligibility of aspirants seeking positions in the party’s national leadership.

According to the NPP National Officers’ Elections Committee, all 47 aspirants who appeared before the Vetting Committee satisfied the requirements to contest the elections.

The positions being contested include National Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communications Director.

The vetting, according to the committee, was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and regulations governing the elections.

The NPP has scheduled the elections for October 3, 2026, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The Electoral Commission is expected to supervise the exercise, while the party’s National Elections Committee will organise the process.

Before the main election, the party is expected to proceed with other stages of the electoral process.

The NPP is scheduled to hold a joint meeting of its National Executive Committee and National Council on September 10, while the notice of poll is expected to be published on September 14.

Balloting for positions is also scheduled for September 9.

The electoral college for the national officers’ elections comprises members of the National Council, National Executive Committee, Regional Executive Committees, Constituency Executive Committees and External Branch Executive Committees.

The election is expected to produce a new team of national officers at a significant period for the party as it reorganises ahead of the 2028 general election.

The national officers will play an important role in shaping the party’s organisational direction, strengthening its structures and coordinating activities at the national, regional and constituency levels.

The clearance of all 47 aspirants means that none of the candidates who completed the vetting process has been disqualified from the contest at this stage.

Attention will now shift to the remaining stages of the electoral process, including balloting and campaigning ahead of the October election.

The outcome will determine the individuals who take up the party’s key national executive positions and could influence the NPP’s organisational strategy as it prepares for the next general election.

With all 47 aspirants cleared, the contest is now set to move into a more competitive phase as candidates seek support from members of the party’s electoral college.
