The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has introduced a new first step for all persons seeking to contest on the party’s ticket for the 2028 parliamentary elections, requiring them to declare their interest online at a fee of GH¢5,000.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua announced the measure at a press conference at the NPP headquarters on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

According to Mr Kodua, the party’s portal ppc.nppghana.org will be opened from November 1 to November 10, 2026 for all prospective aspirants – including sitting Members of Parliament – to formally declare their intention to contest.

He said the GH¢5,000 declaration-of-interest fee is non-refundable and comes with an eligibility check.

The party will screen aspirants to determine whether they meet requirements under the NPP Constitution and the laws of Ghana before nominations are formally opened.

Mr Kodua explained that the exercise is an administrative step and does not constitute nomination, nor does it give aspirants permission to start campaigning in constituencies.

As part of the new process, the party will organize mandatory training and capacity-building workshops for all aspirants across three zones in December:

  • Northern Zone – December 1-4
  • Middle Zone – December 8-11
  • Southern Zone – December 15-18

Mr Kodua said the initiative, the first of its kind in Ghana’s political history, is to promote a free, fair and transparent process, drawing lessons from the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections and to ensure aspirants understand the responsibilities of an NPP parliamentary candidate.
