The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal syndicate believed to be behind a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.
According to a press statement issued on November 3, 2026, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on October 31, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m. by an IGP’s Special Team comprising personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.

The operation led to the arrest of two Nigerian nationals, identified as Aboy Promise, 30, and Favour Uwalaka, 45, at a hotel in Moshie Zongo.
A search conducted in their rooms resulted in the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key allegedly used to gain unauthorised access to victims’ vehicles.

Police say the suspects admitted their involvement in the robberies during interrogation and mentioned two alleged accomplices identified as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew substantial amounts of money and allegedly followed them before attacking and robbing them. They were also suspected of breaking into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers to steal cash.

The two suspects subsequently led the police to another hotel at Dechemso, where the third suspect, Kingsley, 35, also a Nigerian national, was arrested.
However, the fourth suspect, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large, prompting the police to appeal to the public for credible information that could lead to his arrest.

The police further disclosed that the suspects admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, after the victim had withdrawn money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also reportedly admitted to similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.

The three arrested suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
The Police Command has urged bank customers to remain vigilant, watch out for suspicious individuals around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or other valuables unattended in vehicles.
Members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspect are encouraged to contact the nearest police station or call 191, 112 or 18555 on MTN and Telecel networks.
The Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating robbery and other criminal activities in the Ashanti Region.
